 Spooky Barbel

Of course, we all like the barbel hammer-round bites. But what about barbel that don’t bolt but feel instead for any pressure on the line. Perhaps the tip – even my beloved touch legering – isn’t always the answer for fish like these.

My thoughts go back to Steve Harper in the 80s when he used to fish a bobbin for barbel in slacks with great success. For those barbel in the margins, this could be the pressure-free option. And the method works for chub, big time, of course.

One advantage is that you can fish at night with one or two rods with total ease and efficiency. Now the nights are pulling in so fast, this is a real bonus.
